Containing spills and fire
Article Abstract:
Construction of a consolidated jet fuel storage facility for the Los Angeles International Airport necessitated the containment of fuel spills to protect water resources and the ecosystem and to provide adequate fire protection and prevention. Designers specified that the concrete to be used should possess low permeability and high durability to ensure tightness. Building codes recommending reinforcement distribution to limit crack size and joint design to prevent leaks were also followed.
