NASA scales back science on station
Article Abstract:
NASA is cutting back on science for the early years of the space station, which had been touted as an orbiting laboratory, and diverting money and payload capacity to construction. The agency has also asked Japan and Europe to build the space centrifuge and its housing, respectively.

Vice-Pres Gore's interest in space science advances at a meeting with researchers has encouraged them to hope for increased funding for their projects. However, the administration plans to cut the 1998 budget of the National Aeronautics and Space Admin by $200 million.
