Labour promises a key role for science
Article Abstract:
Science spokesman Adam Ingram promised that, once in power, Labour would reverse Conservative actions that have decreased the influence of science in the government since 1992. Science Minister Ian Taylor believes Labour's plan to scrap reviews aimed at privatizing government labs is fiscally irresponsible.

Britain's big science in a bind
Article Abstract:
UK 1994 science-administration reforms, which formed the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC) to separate the two capital-intensive fields from other disciplines, has not been a success. Most of PPARC's funds go to CERN and ESA dues, with little left to use their resources.
