Sandvik Coromant is a tooling arm of the Sandvik group of Sweden, specializing in tools made from cemented carbide, ceramics and other exotic materials. Some 6% of turnover is invested in R&D, and 50% of sales are said to come from products under five years old. They found that users did not understanding their products and the company developed a coding system based on fundamental cutting factors, to address the problem. The Corokey system has been successful in ensuring that more of the inserts are correctly selected for a particular job.

UK-based electronic component distributor Farnell Components uses technology to fulfill about 1,500 orders an hour. Call center staffers have computers on their desks to verify whether products are in stock. An inventory system is used to check in products delivered to the warehouse as well as determine the availability of storage space. A new carousel system has also been adopted to increase storage density.
