Cyclic fatigue experiments and analysis of silicon nitrides - stepwise loading
Article Abstract:
Two types of advanced hot-pressed silicon nitrides were analyzed for their fast fracture, fatigue fracture and runout through rotating beam fatigue experiments. Some of the samples were examined under step-up load testing. The fatigue exponent was determined by using a maximum likelihood analysis on data resulting from the single load and step-up load tests. A Weibull analysis was used to examine the effect of surface finish on fast and fatigue fracture. Results show that the cyclic fatigue life of silicon nitrides strongly depends on the amplitude of bending stress.

On the characterization of fatigue crack growth in a plate with a single-sided repair
Article Abstract:
A comprehensive study was conducted regarding crack growth in plates with a single-sided repair. The concept of using an effective stress intensity factor for characterizing fatigue crack growth with the effect out of plane bending is promising and versatile.
