Deposition of S and NOx nitrogen to the Great Lakes estimated with a regional deposition model
Article Abstract:
A regional deposition model was used to estimate the Great Lakes' reaction to atmospheric loading of anthropogenic S and NOx nitrogen. The results were fairly consistent with objective assessments of deposition, and the lower Great Lakes showed the best agreement. The deposition to Lake Superior was underestimated by the model. There was some uncertainty in wet deposition due to the lack of monitoring data over bodies of water. The atmospheric pathway was a key component in total loading.

Dry deposition of semivolatile organic compounds to Lake Michigan
Article Abstract:
The results of the Lake Michigan Urban Air Toxics Study (LMUATS), which took place from Jul. 8 to Aug. 9, 1991, are presented. LMUATS was the first large-scale effort to evaluate the effect of urban plume on the deposition of hazardous air pollutants to Lake Michigan. Although measured and calculated ambient concentrations of several compounds were in good agreement, the deposition fluxes obtained by LMUATS and those found in other studies were markedly different for some compounds.

Estimation of wet deposition of sulfur, nitrogen, cadmium, and lead to the great lakes
Article Abstract:
The resulting wet deposition estimates obtained from objective interpolation analysis were compared with the results from an averaging procedure. A stochastic process with a constant regional mean was used as the interpolation scheme for the estimation of sulfur, nitrogen, lead and cadmium concentration fields over the Great Lakes and their land basins. Further developments were found to be necessary for the reliability of the methods.
