The exploitation of a multidisciplinary approach in studying the R&D/marketing interface with some empirical evidence
Article Abstract:
THe nature of the R&D/marketing interface is explored through interviews with 48 managers at four multinationals in the pharmaceutical industry. Two key issues, both requiring a multidisciplinary approach, are identified in relation to the R&D/marketing interface: motivation and expectation difference. Furthermore, two types of motivation are identified. One is motivation for a long-range strategic relationship, which is more effective since it is built on shared expectations. The other is the short-term operational motivation which is often hindered by an expectation difference.
