Dynamics of Zebra Mussel oxygen demand in Seneca River, New York
Article Abstract:
Variations in zebra mussel oxygen demand (ZOD) reflected responses to changes in ambient conditions. The research examined the magnitude and dynamics of oxygen depletion in zebra mussel metabolism at the Seneca river in New York for three months in 1994. The value of the ZOD varied greatly during the study period. More than a factor of three in ZOD variations were observed during constant biomass, in response to changing ambient conditions.

Article Abstract:
EcoFate is found to be a viable tool in water quality management as it helps determine what combination of emission levels will result in ambient concentrations that meet water quality standards. EcoFate is a time-dependent multimedia mass balance simulation model for the environmental distribution and food-chain accumulation of organic contaminants in aquatic ecosystems.
