Direct surface analysis of pesticides on soil, leaves, grass, and stainless steel by static secondary ion mass spectrometry
Article Abstract:
A study aimed at evaluating static secondary ion mass spectrometry's (SIMS) practical use in pesticide analysis is presented. The SIMS was utilized for the direct surface analyses of pesticides absorbed on dandelion leaves, grass, soil, and stainless steel samples. Direct surface analysis edges out conventional pesticides analysis methods in the elimination of sample pre-treatment including extraction. The results of the study indicate that SIMS can ideally be used in the direct surface detection of a range of pesticides.

Immunoassays for pesticides
Article Abstract:
The effectiveness of immunoassays for screening and detecting pesticides in water is investigated. The results show that immunoassays can be useful for detecting environmental contaminants and several have in fact been developed. However, these immunoassays are mostly used in the laboratory and there is no information on their performance under field conditions. In addition, there is a need to address the problem of limited supply of defined antibodies and the lack of single-compound specifity.

Correlation techniques for estimating pesticide volatilization flux and downwind concentrations
Article Abstract:
A study aimed at developing a useful approach to estimating downwind air concentrations from emissions is presented. The technique employed characterizes physicochemical properties of various pesticides and other organics with their known volatilization rates from treated soil, plant, and water. The approach of correlating various pesticides' properties makes it easy to identify and monitor hazardous pesticides.
