Eco-development tested on Virginia's eastern shore
Article Abstract:
Officials of Northampton County, VA, are planning to build a new industrial park to improve the local economy, which is one of the poorest in the state. However, the county is planning an innovative industrial park which aims to attract nonpolluting companies which use each other's waste materials. The idea for the industrial park came about as a compromise between local residents and state officials. The local people agreed to restrict onshore development and assist in preserving bird habitats if a sustainable development industrial park would be established in the are.

Continuous emissions monitors for toxics need more work
Article Abstract:
The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) saw the need to develop continuous emissions monitors (CEMs) following the need to dispose of mixed hazardous and low-level nuclear wastes stored in stockpiles. The DOE, along with the Department of Defense and the EPA, has set aside $41 million in federal funds to finance its CEM technology program. The program would focus on developing commercially viable multi-metal CEMs.
