Economic $ may leave some endangered species "out in the cold"
Article Abstract:
The government of Canada on June 5, 2003 proclaimed the Species at Risk Act (SARA) where 233 species were given legal listing and declared at risk. Arising out of a controversy regarding listing, many biologists believed strongly that the listing process should be entirely driven by science and not by corrupt politicians.

Labrador's Mealy Mountain wilderness could be preserved as a national park, if Parks Canada is successful in its efforts in this regard. The provincial government, however, is considering proposals for commercial forestry in the area, including clearcuts that exceed the current provincial limits for area.
