Enantioselective accumulation of alpha-hexachlorocyclohexane in northern fur seals and double-crested cormorants: effects of biological and ecological factors in the higher trophic levels
Article Abstract:
A study of the accumulation of alpha-hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH)in the northernfur seals from the Pacific coast of Japan and the double-crested cormorants of the Great Lakes showed that biological factors figured prominently in the bioaccumulation of HCH in higher trophic organisms. The high concentration of HCH in female fur seals, as well as the different concentrations of HCH in the tissues of cormorants from Lake Michigan and Lake Superior showed that feeding habits and habitat were the prime drivers of bioaccumulation.

Chlorbornanes in water, sediment, and fish from toxaphene treated and untreated lakes in Western Canada
Article Abstract:
Investigations into the toxaphene accumulation in fish, water and sediment samples from toxaphene-treated and untreated lakes in Western Canada showed toxaphene accumulation governed by limnological factors. This observation is due to the high toxaphene concentrations in fish samples from an untreated glacial-fed lake. Toxaphene concentrations from the samples in treated lakes showed toxaphene accumulation governed by toxaphene intermediary accumulation in the sediments.
