The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences has proposed an Environmental Genome Project to explore the relationship between genetics and environmentally caused diseases. The project would sequence DNA from a population of 1,000 people.

Article Abstract:
The mechanism by which methylene chloride causes cancer in mice, but not often in rats or humans, may facilitate risk assessment in humans. In another study, atmospheric nitrogen dioxide was directly linked to asthma in rats.

525 laid off as USGS looks ahead
