Evolution towards integrated product development in subsidiaries of multinational companies
Article Abstract:
The evolution in four subsidiaries of multinational manufacturing companies in Ireland toward integrated product development and their acquisition of specialized development skills are discussed. It was observed that the subsidiaries, at their early phase of evolution, appear to start acquiring their specialized skills from an engineering base prior to obtaining a marketing mandate. The study also showed that subsidiaries create linkages between successful product development projects with managers at corporate levels and their own supply base, which appear to aid them in attaining specialized skills and expanding their mandates.

New product development and early supplier involvement (ESI): the drivers of ESI adoption

Early supplier involvement approach to product development processes results to considerable gains and benefits to industries applying it. This approach entails involving suppliers at the early stage of a product development process. Critical contributions from both supplier and manufacturer lead to successful marketing of a product. The choice to adopt ESI depends more on the strategic decision of the organization, however inability to adapt to technological changes may stall success.
