Exploiting synthetic chemistry with mesoionic rings: Improvements achieved with thioisomunchnones
Article Abstract:
The chemistry of mesoionic rings, especially their use as masked dipoles, is a fruitful area of research since the late 1950s period. The contribution employing thioisomunchnones, a class of mesoionics that has found use in creating a series of heterocyclic systems hitherto inaccessible by conventional 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, is illustrated.

Directed assembly of metal-cyanide cluster magnets
Article Abstract:
The simple, well-understood coordination chemistry of the cyanide ligand is of significant utility in the design of new single-molecule magnets. Its preference for bridging two transition metals in a linear M'-CN-M geometry permits the use of multidentate blocking ligands in directing the assembly of specific molecular architectures.

Surfing the nanowaves: Progress in understanding the gas-liquid interface
Article Abstract:
Recent work on the gas-liquid interface is discussed with emphasis on theoretical studies of the small-scale motion of the capillary-wave zone. Liquids are engineered to make the interfacial surface tension extremely small with the result that the rms displacement was of the order of micrometers rather than angstroms.
