Univ of Minnesota experiments on prairie-plant plots supported Darwin's conjecture that productivity increases with an ecosystem's biodiversity. Team leader G David Tilman claims the experiments and new mathematical models hold implications for forest and grazing-land management.

Asian hominids grow older
Article Abstract:
Discovery of hominid fossils in China has revised scientific estimates of the date that primitive man reached Asia to 1.8 million years ago vs the earlier estimate of 1 million years ago. The Chinese fossils may be related to an earlier species than Homo erectus.

Nocturnal researchers tune their ears to our ancestors

Research on nocturnal prosimians such as the aye-aye is producing new insights into primate behavior. Sound and smell, rather than sight, lay the ground for the animals' complex social structure and dictate natural selection processes such as choice of mate.
