Forcible Entry
Article Abstract:
A fungal pathogen, on a plant, must find a means to get to the underlying tissue. The means of entry seems to be varied in that an enzymatic action is sometimes used, while other species might make use of infection structures, which are called appressoria. Fungi are the cause of many plant diseases, and it becomes important to understand, and deter, this entry process.

A Cellular Striptease Act
Article Abstract:
Research shows that cells cannot shed their ectodomains of plasma membrane protein if metallprotein inhibitors are present. The tumor necrosis factor-Alpha converting enzyme (TACE) is necessary for shedding. TACE is part of the a disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain protein family and is inhibited by TIMP-3.
