Financing innovation in the post-subsidy era - public support mechanisms to mobilize finance for innovation
Article Abstract:
The design to encourage private and institute investors to provide risk capital in projects for innovations and firms based in new technology is barred by the difference in cultures and fields of expertise. Many initiatives for such projects are being made in Europe, mostly duplicate US initiatives but the ability to be integrated in other areas are hindered by variations, such as financial and tax legislation and regulation of that region. It is therefore recommended that academic experts investigate present trends to remove the learning barriers, reconcile these barriers, create a cross-border policy and invite public support for said projects.

Selective information on the national system of innovation as an important input for the technology management of firms
Article Abstract:
Patent statistics are used as a reference point for examining innovation in the Austrian industrial arena. Three aspects of the Austrian national innovation system are emphasized: its structure and technological specialization profile; the place it occupies in the global patent 'landscape;' and the breakdown of patent applications by sector of origin. Results show a close interdependence between technology fields and Austrian industrial sectors. Moreover, the country is observed to be strong in medium-technology fields but weak in more complex technologies.
