Beating a sudden killer
Article Abstract:
Clinicians have classically been unsure when to operate on an aortic aneurysm, a swelling in the large artery that carries blood from the heart and if left untreated, it could fatally rupture or dissect. But the only proven intervention, replacement of the damaged aorta with artificial parts, is itself risky and hence detailed analyses of thousands of patients have led to guidelines for the best time to operate.

Questions about how the conscious mind comes into being has long intrigued neuroscientists, philosophers, and others. Some feel such questions are unanswerable, others feel that the mind may be downgraded, but it is likely the mind will survive all exploration.
