Finding solutions for a sustainable future

Article Abstract:

The Earthwatch Institute supports ongoing global sustainability efforts by recruiting volunteers to assist in collecting data. No special skills are required, and costs may be tax deductible because they are considered research expenditures. Earthwatch data collection has resulted in preserving endangered species, providing agriculture to remote communities and establishing new parks and reserves.

Article Abstract:

Ocean conservation is important in stemming the destruction of marine habitat and species. Threatened ocean sites and wildlife include the world's coral reefs, Baja sea turtles, lemon sharks and manatees near the Florida coast, and dolphin, whales and seals in a variety of locations. Tasks in Earthwatch projects include observing behavior, filming wildlife and water quality sampling.

Article Abstract:

Preservation of threatened ecosystems is important for a wide variety of reasons. Some contain most of the earth's nonhuman species, such as birds, primates and plants. Endangered ecosystems include Costa Rican rivers, Bolivian savannas, Kenya's Rift Valley, Canadian forests and the Baja Island region. Earthwatch project tasks include species counting and conservation.
