The 747 is considered one of the great engineering feats of the world because of its speed. A transatlantic 747, for instance, travels faster than the speed of sound with no sonic boom. The speed fixes the wing loading at a given air density to ensure that the airplane cruises efficiently.

The physics of binary numbers

Matter, gravity and bilateral symmetries found in life reflect the use of binary numbers. Binary patterns were in use in ancient times, but the oldest example of this is the balance. Different ways of expressing the year 2000 in numbers are described.
