From master to mentor: EPA's evolving new role will reshape national environmental policy
Article Abstract:
The National Environmental Policy Institute began its effort to change the enactment of environmental policies which should be based on sound scientific and economic studies, realistic goals, innovative partnership and flexibility. The reinvention of the US EPA was the objective of the creation of a working group composed of the environmental and scientific communities, the academia, government and over 150 experts and officials from industry. Since then, significant progress has been made in environmental policy with major contributions from the federal, state and local levels.

Toiling amid toxicity: U.S. farm labor force
Article Abstract:
The promotion of non-chemical alternatives to pesticides and new farming techniques can ensure the safety of US farm workers. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 300,000 farm laborers suffer from pesticide poisonings annually. The double standards of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act in placing production values higher than workers' safety result in a greater number of people getting exposed to pesticides. Lack of information about the extent of effects these chemicals have on workers prevents adequate health cover for victims.
