Gas-phase and particle phase organic compounds emitted from motor vehicle traffic in a Los Angeles roadway tunnel
Article Abstract:
A Los Angeles roadway tunnel yielded carbon monoxide emissions rates of 130 g L-1 of gasoline-equivalent fuel burned and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions of 9.1 gL-1. The concentration of organic compounds in the tunnel is consistent with a linear combination of the pollutants over a fairly wide range of about 74-97% vehicle exhaust when VOC emissions composition in the tunnel compared to that of tailpipe emissions source test date and to the composition of additional unburned whole gasoline. The fine particulate emissions within the tunnel are made up mostly of carbonaceous material and ammonium nitrate.

Patterns of total mercury concentrations in Onondaga Lake, New York
Article Abstract:
Onondaga Lake, NY, is a hardwater lake that has become heavily polluted due to effluent and industrial waste dumping. Patterns of total mercury (HgT) concentrations and chemical indicators were examined to evaluate Hg behavior in the lake. The concentrations were comparable to those in lakes polluted by chloralkali facilities and mining industries. HgT concentration increases expressed a positive functional relationship with H2ST concentration increases.

A simple automated continuous-flow-equilibration method for measuring carbon monoxide in seawaer
Article Abstract:
A simple, robust, low-maintenance method using air-segmented continuous-flow equilibration to automatically extract and analysis carbon monoxide and other low-solubility gases is described. The system was tested by monitoring the diurnal variation of CO concentration in Sargasso Sea surface waters.
