General isotherm nonlinearity and applicability of the dual reactive domain model
Article Abstract:
Analysis of sorption isotherms of phenanthrene, a hydrophobic solute probe applied to 27 different soil and sediment samples, revealed that a linear phase partitioning model was not useful to describe sorption behavior but that the Dual Reactive Domain Model and the Freundlich isotherm model were effective. Additionally, some caution was attached to the practice of extrapolating sorption behavior using the linear model and based on measurements using aqueous-phase solute concentrations that are at high and narrow levels.

Isotherm nonlinearity and nonequilibrium sorption effects on transport of monuron in soil columns
Article Abstract:
The effects of sorbate sorbent exposure time on the transport behavior of monuron and fenuron in laboratory soil columns were investigated under field conditions. Two soil samples were collected and subjected to chromatographic analysis to determine their breakthrough curves and retardation factors. Three one-dimensional models were also used in the study. Results show that nonlinear sorption often result in highly variable fenuron retardation factors.

Thermodynamically derived relationships between the modified Langmuir isotherm and experimental parameters
Article Abstract:
Parameters for the modified Langmuir isotherm and properties of thermodynamic ion-exchange are defined. A relationship between the two is postulated mathematically. Isotherms are useful in explaining the adsorption of solutes on solids. Isotherm equations enable researchers to combine adsorption parameters with transport equations in order to explain limitations on adsorption.
