Graft and host, together forever
Article Abstract:
Thomas E. Starzl, a transplant surgeon and researcher at the University of Pittsburgh, has pioneered organ transplantation with antirejection drugs and is legendary for his groundbreaking work on new techniques for transplant surgery. He is working on a phenomenon called microchimerism, a condition in which a small number of cells from two individuals coexist in one body, which might play a role in autoimmune disorders and help in stopping taking antirejection drugs.
