Growth imperils parks worldwide
Article Abstract:
National parks around the world have traditionally been intended to provide a place of sanctuary for beautiful landscapes, wildlife and plant habitats. However, they are now being threatened by the economic expansion of mankind. Millions of visitors are causing irreversible damage to the parks' environment and natural ecosystems. Future park management schemes should take into account visitor requirements to protect the parks from further damage.

Sustainable resource use in Latin American parks
Article Abstract:
Several groups in Latin America have developed ways to preserve national park resources while providing income opportunities to nearby communities. The Friends of Nature Foundation in Bolivia, for instance, offers agricultural-extension and soil conservation education to villagers while the Palcazu project in Peru teaches forest management techniques to the Yanesha Indian tribe to ensure the regeneration of trees that they cut down.
