Hawaii's interbase interstate
Article Abstract:
Hawaii's third interstate highway connecting Pearl Harbor to the Kaneohe Marine Air Corps Station, one of the longest-running construction projects, will be opened in 1996 after 30 years of planning, designing and construction. The project which includes tunnels, viaducts, bridges and a twin-bore is owned by Hawaii State DOT. The project had to face ligation concerning environmental issues and it had to reach compromises with experts in several areas such as archaeology and biology. Federal highway funds has contributed 90% of the funding and state funds have contributed the rest.
