House members, administration debate bridge safety proposal
Article Abstract:
The collapse of the bridge on Interstate 35W in Minneapolis has renewed the interest on bridge safety in the U.S House of Representatives. Jim Oberstar's proposal for bridge safety is to create a trust fund dedicated to funding the upgrades of structurally deficient bridges. 74,000 of the 597,000 bridges in the United States are rated structurally deficient.

San Diego to spend $11 billion to fix sewers as part of consent decree
Article Abstract:
San Diego, California's consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will require the city to spend around $1 billion for sanitary sewer overflow control (SSO). The project will take around six years and will require the cleaning of at least 1,500 mi of pipe annually.
