How safe is your water?

A growing number of Americans are becoming concerned about the safety of their drinking water with $2.1 billion and $450 million spent on bottled water and home treatment systems, respectively in 1995. The most serious threats to water safety are industrial chemicals, lead and microorganisms.

Water vapor almost busts dam
Article Abstract:
Glen Canyon Dam's integrity was at risk in 1983 because of cavitation, a situation when vapor cavities form in high-velocity water columns. Such cavities can shred concrete from spillways. The article includes discussion of the engineering used to correct the problem at this dam.
