MIT Media Lab professor Tod Machover has invented several hyperinstruments, which are half computer and half instruments. Hyperinstruments merge the sounds of traditional instruments and synthesizers via user-friendly interfaces. They task the computer with the technical aspects of playing but leave the emotional and artistic elements to the users.

Article Abstract:
Lyle Rawlings has designed and built a house in Hopewell, NJ, that obtains its power totally from solar sources. The house traps heat by using a large area of windows and walls on the sunny side and minimizes the area on the cooler side. A prototype solar water heater is also used in the house.

The FAA has successfully tested a Global Positioning System (GPS)-based landing system that uses differential GPS technology for improved accuracy. The system successfully brought down a Boeing 737 jet in 100 out of 111 attempts.
