Determination of nanomolar concentrations of nitrite and nitrate in natural waters using long path length absorbance spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
The problems of detecting nanomolar concentrations of nitrite and nitrate concentrations in natural waters associated with colorimetric analysis were surmounted using long path length absorbance spectroscopy. The spectroscopic technique relied on the use of a liquid core waveguide to increase the sensitivity of colorimetric nitrite and nitrate determination, with the lower limit for nitrite determination lowered to 0.5 nM and nitrite determination lowered to 1.5 nM. This was achieved by using the 4.5 m path length liquid core waveguide.

A new device for the simulation of indoor air pollution sources
Article Abstract:
The design of a new volatile organic compound vapor generation system is described. The design of the vapor generator is based on the the principle used in piezoelectric ink-jet printers. Performance testing of the vapor generator showed the system able to produce emission rates in the range of 8 microgram per hour to 7.7 milligram per hour, and whose variability in emission rates was rated at less than 2%. The vapor generator was found to work in almost all classes of compounds, including lipophilic and hydrophilic substances.
