Method comparison and evaluation for the analysis of weak acid-dissociable cyanide
Article Abstract:
Weak-acid-dissociable (WAD) procedures for monitoring dissociated free form cyanides in waste water provide alternatives to the cyanide amenable to chlorination (CATC) procedure, which is currently the only monitoring procedure approved by the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System. An evaluation of three available methods for the WAD procedure, the Standard Methods, the Bayer Method SA-61A, and the Bayer Methods SA-100, shows that the wad procedures avoid the interferences encountered by the CATC procedure.

Aggregation in the marine environment
Article Abstract:
Biogeochemical cycles in the marine environment can best be understood through particle or aggregate formation, which is shown to follow both the complex interaction of the coagulation and disaggregation models. Aggregates form the dominant mechanism for the vertical transport of materials through the water column and whose formation seems to be dependent on the presence of tranparent exopolymer particles, which is the major binding material for the aggregates.

Herbicide-resistant soybean plant sprouts opposition to transgenic seeds
Article Abstract:
Environmental activists criticized the use of genetically engineered soybean plants due to their potentially damaging effects to the environment. The environmental group Greenpeace indicated that the possible release of bioengineered plants such as herbicide-resistant soybeans will increase the use of agricultural chemicals. Genetically altered plants will also affect the survival of plant native species and alter the ecosystem.
