Influence of surfactants on vapor-liquid partitioning
Article Abstract:
Equilibrium partitioning in the presence of two surfactants and humic acid of common subsurface contaminants between the liquid and vapor pahases is evaluated. Closed vessel equilibrations were used to evaluate the equilibrium partitioning of benzene, toluene and o-xylene. Chemical mass was partitioned into vapor, aquated and surfactant-associated phases by a three-phase model. Surfactants were found to significantly affect organic chemical partitioning.

Partitioning behavior and the mobility of chlordane in groundwater
Article Abstract:
The utilization of the combination of laboratory batch solubility and sortion experiments with column studies in examining chlordane partitioning and mobilization in groundwater near the site is discussed. Humic substances extracted from geologic material collected from a closed municipal/industrial landfill were subjected to comprehensive batch experiments. Chlordane was found to be enhanced in the humic substances.

Experiences of a large-scale application of 1,2-dichloroethane degrading microorganisms for groundwater treatment
Article Abstract:
A successful application of 1,2-dichloroethane (DCA) degrading microorganisms for a pump-and-treat groundwater remediation system is evaluated. DCA conversion to a desired range was made possible by fixation onto suitable surfaces such as sintered glass or expanded clay. A target DCA range can be achieved by integrating the biological degradation process with an adsorption process.
