Lining the line
Article Abstract:
Flexible plastic membranes are being utilized as waterproofing system in highway tunnels and subway stations in Washington, DC. The unreinforced polyvinyl-chloride membrane can be used around corners and uneven surfaces. Double seam welds are used to join the membranes for increased tightness, resulting in a continuous membrane. The waterproofing system was also designed to allow bracing removal and membrane protection during removal should rehabilitation work be needed in case leakage occurs.

Modern day environmental enigma: walking a fine line?
Article Abstract:
Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination of soil and groundwater in California and Texas are endangering the population of both states. Studies on the contamination have prompted environmental policies which forced some oil companies to shut down. However, the said studies have been insufficient because they fail to focus on the elimination of the cancer-causing chemical methyl tertiary butyl ether, which has contaminated the drinking water in the states.
