Liquid engineering forces the pace
Article Abstract:
Hydraulics technology is evolving under pressure from competing techniques and diverse manufacturers. Greater pressure in the hydraulics systems is one hot area. It requires advanced leakage control and particle filtration systems. In spite of development of O-ring couplings and other sealers, less environmentally damaging fluids are under development. Noise-damping techniques, integrated electronics, fuzzy logic, and advanced monitoring systems are all gaining popularity.

On the waves of success
Article Abstract:
European directive 89/336/EEC, also known as the EMC directive, requires electrical and electronic products to cause no electrical interference and show intrinsic immunity to such interference. It has created much confusion: a transitional period was created (ending Dec 1, 1995), transportation has separate rules, and sub-component and multi-system (factory) levels are exempt. Manufacturers must test systems or have them tested, or produce a technical construction file.

Suppliers on the factory floor
Article Abstract:
Computervision has developed the Partnership for Manufacturing programme which involves teaching its 490 UK based staff about the basics of manufacturing technology. It will also help it to achieve its objectives in the manufacturing marketplace and the programme may become part of its overall strategy. Material from the course will be used in other areas of its business such as service, sales and consultancy.
