Living on the edge
Article Abstract:
UK firms are a dominant force in motorsports, particularly in Formula One racing. This is due to several factors that include a large number of Second World War airfields which were used as racing circuits. UK constructors are characterized by a high degree of vision and efficiency in their approach to manufacturing because they have been traditionally constrained with limited budgets. They were also able to apply technological innovations from the country's aerospace industry. The abundance of engineering firms that supply motorsport needs also contributed to this success.

Cooperation hones competitive edge
Article Abstract:
Conglomerates of research and development companies can lend considerable impetus to American competitiveness. Studies reveal that such associations can function effectively under conditions of funding stability and smooth coordination between the managerial and technical staff. Defining a focused mission with clear parameters of success and offering incentives for extra efforts are other conditions which enhance the effectiveness of the consortia. Proper policies guidelines for the research and development consortia can enhance US competitiveness.
