Article Abstract:
Green colors have done great wonders for some companies and French celebrities during the early 1860s. In 1863, a German chemical firm witnessed its business grow through the invention of green dye- the same year when Empress Eugenie impressed everyone by wearing a dress with the same color.

France's development of pneumatic drills facilitated the completion of the Suez canal and inspired George Westinghouse to apply pneumatics to air brakes on trains. A variety of other developments and discoveries are traced that eventually culminate in Verdi's writing of the opera Aida.
