Panel secrets
Article Abstract:
Car manufacturers are under pressure to eliminate noise, vibrations and harshness (NVH) from car body structures, as well as to reduce weight and materials costs. Researchers at the Automotive Engineering Centre in the school of manufacturing and mechanical engineering at the University of Birmingham have undertaken structurally damped body panel research to establish a standard testing method to determine dynamic characteristics.

One good turn
Article Abstract:
Miniature generators are being used in innovative locking device designs at the University of Sheffield, Sheffield, England. Researchers have discovered that a small resonant generator can be used to monitor vibrations. The devices comprises a single-phase tube with two axially magnetized NdFeB magnets and mild steel pole pieces. Prototype generators have been created and work is continuing to develop specific user requirements.
