Magnetic apprehensions: radiologists call for more testing of MRI's effects
Article Abstract:
Some radiologists believe that the newer magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines, which operate at four teslas rather than 1.5 teslas, may not be safe. Radio-frequency energy can increase the temperature of body tissues, and rapid gradient field switching can stimulate nerves in unusual ways.
