Molecular advances in cardiovascular biology
Article Abstract:
Genetic research on mice is revealing new methods of treating and preventing several cardiovascular disease. For example, microbiological techniques in mice have prevented the re-occlusion of coronary arteries following mechanical dilation. Other cardiovascular research is also discussed.

Molecular dynamics (MD) used a simulation tool can describe bimolecular processes in atomic detail. An MD simulation of the atomic force microscope experiment on the binding of biotin to streptavidin matched experimental values for the rupture force between ligand and receptor.

Molecular muscle

Recent research has clarified an old model of muscle contraction based on sliding filaments. Ivan Rayment's team discovered the three-dimensional structure of the head of the myosin protein and constructed a model of actin-myosin interaction. Implications are discussed.
