Mechanisms of ionizing radiation-induced destruction of 2,6-dichlorobiphenyl in aqueous solutions
Article Abstract:
The mechanisms involved in the radiolytic detoxification of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) include the electron beam and gamma-irradiation of 2,6-dichlorobiphenyl (DCB) in aqueous methanol solutions. The irradiation process, which must be performed in high doses, allows for the degradation of DCB and the formation of chlorine ions. Carbonate, when added during the radiolytic detoxification process, will hasten the quantitative dechlorination of DCB.

Identification and quantification of monobromopolychlorobiphenyls in Baltic ringed seal and a technical PCB (Clophen A50)
Article Abstract:
Monobrominated polychlorine biphenyls (Br-PCB) were detected in juvenile Baltic Sea ringed seal. Mass spectrometric techniques were used to identify and quantify the structure of pollutants. The results were compared to those gathered from the chemical analysis of Clophen A50, a technical PCB. The results showed that Clophen A50 is a possible source of Br-PCBs in the seal.

Identification and quantification of polybrominated diphenyl ethers and methoxy-polybrominated diphenyl ethers in Baltic biota
Article Abstract:
Methoxy-polybrominated diphenyl ethers (MeO-PBDPEs) and the ubiquitous polybrominated diphenyl ethers were found in several biological organisms, including seal, herring, salmon, and humans. MeO-PBDPEs, which had not been previous documented as part of the environment, were identified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry techniques.
