Monitoring soil column mobility of cross-linked and soluble polyacrylates using gel permeation chromatography
Article Abstract:
High-performance gel permeation chromatography is found to be a viable tool in assessing elution behavior of polyacrylate absorbent (PA) and linear polyacrylate acid (LPA). Validation results also suggest that typical consumer-grade PAs would not move appreciably through common soil types or near landfills, that LPA may be used to model the movement of the soluble portion of consumer-grade PAs through soils and that the method used is suited for quantifying soluble polyacrylates in synthetic groundwater effluents.

Use of sonochemistry in monitoring chlorinated hydrocarbons in water
Article Abstract:
Sonication is a technique used by environmental engineers to monitor hazardous chemicals in aqeous systems using measuring equipment. It is often used to measure the amount of chlorinated hydrocarbons in water and determine the pH of water before and after sonication. Studies which applied sonication in their analysis revealed its great potential for predicting reactions, analyzing process conditions and developing ultrasound monitoring methods.

Determination of the efficacy of ozone treatment systems using a gap junction intercellular communication assay
Article Abstract:
The influence of potential carcinogens after the ozonation of aqueous organic compounds such as pyrene was determined using a non-genotoxic bioassay that monitors gap junction intercellular communication. The solvent chosen was nonreactive with ozone and miscible with water, It was also ensured that conditions were no rate limiting in water to allow ozonation.
