More bits in pits: DVD-Like system could take a run at holographic storage
Article Abstract:
DVDs will soon hold at least three times more data by relying on blue wavelengths. Changing the shape of the pits could boost the data density an additional 40-fold. Two competing formats in play are Blu-ray (25 gigabytes of storage per layer) and HD-DVD (15 gigabytes) with multiple layers enabling them to hold a high-definition movie (about 20 to 25 gigabytes)
