Need for specification format that accommodates engineered projects

Article Abstract:

The main objection to the project specifications format formulated by the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) is the scarcity of slots needed to locate the sections for numerous equipment and systems. The standard industry practice is to put engineering vessels, process equipment and piping systems into Division 11 (equipment) or Division 13 (special construction). CSI plans to locate all building-related equipment into Division 11 and all public works and process equipment into Division 13. The planned Division 15 is to be used for a systematic organization of the mechanical sections.

Formal development of line-of-balance technique

Article Abstract:

The line-of-balance (LOB) technique can be utilized in planning projects that rely on the frequent use of a typical network. It is useless in projects that do not constantly use a network, such as construction of highways. LOB is not a linear scheduling method and cannot be used to plan linear projects. Linear scheduling can be used on projects that have a linear geometry but do not have repeating networks.
