New Tacoma Narrows Bridge officially opens
Article Abstract:
The new Tacoma Narrows Bridge, dubbed as Galloping Gertie, in the state of Washington has officially opened after fifteen years in the making, first gaining notoriety in its collapse in 1940. The suspension bridge has a width-to-span ratio of 1:72, surpassing San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, and a depth-to-span ratio of 1:209, exceeding New York City's Bronx-Whitestone Bridge.
