New funds plant seeds for genome research effort: Australia(1)
Article Abstract:
Australia allocated funds in 1995 to set up the Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF), which will provide research on a contract basis for all fields. Now new federal and Queensland state funds have been approved for disease-gene research grants and a new building for the AGRF.

Researchers are disappointed that the identification of specific genes involved in breast and ovarian cancer has not yet translated into a means of reliably identifying women at high risk for these cancers and providing them prompt, effective treatment as needed.
