Han Wen and Robert Balaban have developed a new medical-imaging technology they call Hall-effect imaging (HEI). The method, which imposes a magnetic field on an ultrasound beam to obtain a Hall voltage, produces much better resolution than ultrasound at less cost than magnetic resonance imaging.

Shuttle radar maps ancient Angkor
Article Abstract:
Radar images from the Space Shuttle Endeavor are helping World Monuments Fund locate new features of the ancient city of Angkor in Cambodia. The radar's sensitivity to differences in texture make it especially valuable for use on forested sites.
