Nucleophilic substitution as a tool for the synthesis of unsymmetrical porphyrins
Article Abstract:
Porphyrins readily undergo S(sub N)Ar reactions with organolithium reagents, preferentially at the meso-positions. The reaction is highly versatile as it is accomplished with both metal complexes and free-base porphyrins in good yields and high regioselectivity and is the first general method for the direct introduction of functional groups into unactivated porphyrins, including porphine.

Origin, control and application of supramolecular chirogenesis in bisporphyrin-based systems
Article Abstract:
The rationalization of various aspects of the mechanism of charity induction in supramolecular assemblies based upon the complexes formed between an ethane-linked bisoctaethylporphyrin and chiral ligands are described. The origin, control and application of supramolecular chirogenesis in bisporphyrin-based systems are discussed.

Tailoring porphyrins and chlorins for self-assembly in biomimetic artificial antenna systems
Article Abstract:
A simple principle employs self-assembling chromophores that early green photosynthetic bacteria use in their chlorosomal antenna systems. Efforts in mimicking this self-assembly algorithm with fully synthetic pigments are presented.
