Numerical simulation of residual stress caused by quenching process in aluminum gas cylinders
Article Abstract:
The effects of a quenching process on the thickness inelastic strain and residual stress distributions in the neck area of an aluminum gas cylinder was investigated using finite element (FE) algorithms. The results of the finite element analysis results were compared with those from destructive tests. The findings suggest that the FE procedures can be used to derive an optimum thermal treatment for obtaining the desirable microstructure and minimum level of residual stresses.

Wire coating under vacuum
Article Abstract:
Wire coating is a continuous extrusion process to provide an insulating and protective polymer coating to electrical wires and cables. The objective is to relate the final coating thickness, the pressure drop across the extruded melt cone, the contact point of the melt cone with the wire, and the drawing force.
