On Cemetery Pond
Article Abstract:
National park scientist Gary Fellers is trying to discover why red-legged frogs which have been previously abundant during the 1920s have become almost extinct. The frogs remain abundant only in Cemetery Pond in California and Fellers attaches radio transmitters to the females to determine where they go.

A tongue for love

Engineer couple Vijay K. and Vasundara V. Varadan has invented tiny electromechanical machines called smart tongues that can give electronic devices a sense of taste. In milk cartons and juice bottles, smart tongues can be used to determine the growth of unwanted bacteria.

The Japanese Institute of Space and Astronautical Science destroyed its Hitin satellite by crashing it into the moon. Technical difficulties prevented two observatories from observing the event, but one astronomer was able to film the collision.
